The
Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary or the Keoladeo
Ghana Bird Sanctuary, now, is home to storks
and nearly every other kind of bird imaginable.
The total land area of 29 sq km of birdland
protects many different species, some common and
a few exotic. However, don't expect the birds to
wait and pose for the shutter to drop, you have
to search for them amongst the foliage, swamp
and grasslands; the quest often translating into
a spirited game of hide 'n' seek!. The best way
to sight them as they nest amongst the boughs
and along the roadside is on foot or on a
bicycle.
The
Bharatpur Forest Lodge within the
premises of the sanctuary offers an up close and
personal stay. Faded interiors with nothing to
write home about except the vantage location,
which doesn't come cheap.
